I know PBA season is about to start

I know PBA season is about to start when I start bumping (..luckily not literally ) into PBA especially Ginebra players on Robinson's. I have a lot of fan moment when I enter that mall and look to Gold gym's cafe. lol.

Ginebra Kings just held their victory party last friday, too bad my friend and I don't have the stub/entrance pass.

I'm little bit of worried about their line up, too many injured main players and they badly need a big man a 4 or 5. Every other team have beefed up their line up except the kings! But that was also the case last season, but they still ended up as the champions! BGK's line up is solid just as long as everyone stays healthy!

Sponge Cola's Self Titled third album

Sponge Cola's Self Titled third album

I just bought my copy of Sponge Cola's third album!

I'll write my album review soon, I'll try to be unbiased as possible & I'll post the picture that I secretly took at Oddesey :P

---

A drained iPod battery later (Wednesday, Sept 24)

Here's my thoughts about the Sponge Cola's self titled third album. This was released last Saturday and by Monday I bought it!

The album opens with “Ayt!” with a line “I dilat ang iyong mga mata”. The song encourages positivity and my gut tells me that this is entitled “Ayt” because the band wants us to agree and respond to their challenge.

“Puso” is the first single off the album. I've heard it first on UAAP basketball opening and closing billboards. “Dehado..Wag ka sanang magkakamaling sumuko na lang” I know its Yael. The band have produced a lot of inspirational-hero-themed-OST like songs in Boundless, Bitiw, Tuloy pa rin and now Puso.

The signature catchy pop rock vibe is present on Filipino tracks like “Wala kang katulad” & “Makapiling ka”. I easily embraced both songs and found myself singing along on second round of Sponge Cola playlist. I can't help to sing Yael's part and the back up vocals for the later.

I get my head bumping in the tune of “Step back” while “All the Time” is still growing into me. Me thinks that Chris indicated in his contract that in every album he needs to have 1 song that's all him -music, words and everything. In the tradition of Jillian, Myself in You – now comes “In another life”

In terms of variety, the album have something to offer, “Di na mababawi” is an acoustic track – a calm song yet the message is full of cold words to a lost lover (Who hurt you Gosh? :P) . While "G.K.T" is a wacky song featuring Jomal of Kamikaze. This is a pleasant surprise for all the K.L.S.P.

A potential single is “Lights” with a bouncy tune and ironic line “Close your eyes..to see the light”.

The track “Meteor Shower”, for some unknown reason reminds me of Ely Buendia's Wanted bedspacer. I don't know why, how, when, where.

They also included old songs from 2003 EP, “A tear” & “Saturn”, that sounded so much better because of better production. I guess this is part of Yael Yuzon's unrequited love songs series.

The 14th & final track is “Keep the Fire Burning”. I almost cracked up when I heard the second voice “Nasaan ka man” but I like the to-doo-doo chant. The song started slow but ended with a bang and on a positive note.

Sponge Cola's third album is solid, in terms of production value, musicality – I'm speaking as a fan who supports the band for years now & have seen their growth. They've come a long way from “Palabas”, (third year college) their first try, was recorded on Yael's room with raw sound and talent - a good(songs) & bad(production) thing. Their sophomore album “Transit” (graduated from college) represents movement in terms of the direction of their music and the band. Now the third album (2 years working) is self titled, which means that this is the music that represents them?! By the way, the album packaging gets thinner and thinner BUT I'll vouch that it's inversely proportional to the album quality!

Movie Review: Platonic Sex

Watch Platonic Sex's movie online trailer

"Thank you for being born" - Toshi to Ai

Platonic Sex or Puratonikku sekkusu is a Japanese movie shown in 2001 based on the true to life story of Ai Iijima, played by Saki Kagami. If the whole movie was based on her life, I feel for her. A part of me wants to believe that most parts are just exxagerations or for the sake of adding artistic value. The film is based on Ai's best selling novel “Platonic Sex” where she shared her young life where she suffers one terrible ordeal to another. Ai is a strong woman but from time to time, she feels the urge to end her existence.

Ai was on the verge of a suicide when she recieved a text message from Toshi (Joe Odagiri), who is sending a birthday message to his dead sister. Though the text message was meant for someone else, Ai can relate to the message. It gave her a sense of hope and decided to give her life another chance.

Ai's life started the downhill when she was gang-raped by her "friends" on her 17th birthday but instead of getting sympathy from her family, they only cared on what the neighbors think. She decided to leave home and live in the street where she was spoted to be a club girl. She started earning money but she was in debt when she developed designer brand shopping addiction.

Ai then reluctantly accepts the advice of her manager (Taishu Kase) to enter the adult video business on her 18th birthday, she signed a 5 picture contract where she'll get paid 1 million yen per movie.

She still exchange messages with Toshi, a young guy who works as a bartender/club DJ.

They eventually met and got together, everything was good and sweet in their passionate love affair although Toshi is extremely conscious of what others think. Things got complicated when Toshi found out that she's porn star.

For all the other gory details see the film for yourself.

"Platonic Sex" showed that not all love story can have a happy ending. Ai and Toshi are drawn to each other but ironically Ai feels more alone when she’s with him maybe because they are both emotionally disturbed. Both are haunted by their past and they cant fully support each other because of their own dilemna. I think that they're dilemna are self inflicted because they have an option to go on with their life, but this is easier said than done.

It is a sad film because on what happened on the main characters and the society that they live in. Ai's life revolves on her "work", endless shopping and her phone conversation with her friend - Toshi. When she hooked up with Toshi, she felt secured that she is not alone. But this is just an illusion because she just wants to cling to him to continue her hope - to live happy.

Sad as it maybe, the movie also portayed characters which gives hope to people who are in not so good position. Ai's agent who secretly supports children and a coworker hostess who turned out to be a strong single mother. There's a scene where she said sometimes she have the urge to stranggle her baby but her love for him gets in the way.

Don't let the movie title scare you "Platonic Sex" is not entirely about sex, its a great story about two people who are in a crossroad, it shows that life isn't perfect so we have to deal with it and continue living to find our own happiness.

Eraserheads Fever All Over Again

My regrets are piling up these days.

I first failed to score a ticket for Ginebra's game 7 match where they were eventually named the champions. I watched it at the comfort of my own sofa.

Then due to family related circumstance, I didn't get to watch Eraserhead's reunion concert. I promise come what may, if there's a Part 2, I'll go even by myself!

I first read about the reunion on a blog and then I became a constant lurker an occasional poster at this PEX Eraserheads Reunion Concert thread which is the busiest before and after the concert.
This photo really made me smile, amidst everything, heart attack and all, the four great musicians found a way to play beautiful music again. Photo credit: from Ms Day's multiply (Pupil's manager)

Great Times with Mo, Mojo & Grace Lee

I love Tuesday's episode with special guest Rico Blanco. I previously considered him as a good songwriter and a good performer, just second to Ely Buendia but after listening to him, my admiration increased by more than 100%.

Wow, as Mo Twister said, we have just experienced a performance by a genius.

Today's guest is opposition spokesperson, Atty Adel Tamano, whom I'll vote if he decides to run for any position. We need someone like him, brave new blood with fresh ideas.

I love it when Good Times invites politicians like Senator Chiz Escudero, Cayetano sibblings, I actually voted and believe on those three.
